If your boot sector go doomed to failure on a firm drive is it possible to fix it near a simple format?

don't format, that is to say a last choice picking, pop a xp installation disk in the cdrom, boot from it and choose the rescue console option, at the c:> TYPE IN chkdsk /r. the check disk utility will try to repair the unpromising sector and recover the information, if that does not work, later you may be force to do a format. but if you have information you need to win to, run the windows install resort fromt he cd, and choose the repair path, and nouns a second copy of windows to the system, after hook up a usb hard drive to a port, and put a bet on everything up. then stir back and re run the installation next to a complete ntfs format, (not quick) reload, rebuild your apps, and consequently copy your saved information back.
boot is the root of everything else.

it is impractical to 'fix' via simple format.

Reload op system. If still - replace drive.
If the drive isn't physically dying then formatting will fix the boot sector
If you hold XP, this will do it.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
yes, but you could also boot into the recovery concole (which is on the Windows Disk) and repair the Master Boot Record by typing surrounded by FIXMBR. that will fix it and all will work again. Any other question, just ask...
