If my motherboard does not support sata, can i use converters to connect sata drives and procure glorious speeds?

I hold an intel d845Gebv2 motherboard with 478 socket.

Can this somehow be used to connect a sata drive and undertake high speeds?

You can use a SATA adapter but the speed won't be as nippy as if it were home-grown to the mother board
you can buy a sata controler card that plugs into your pci slot and allows you to connect sata devices to it
you can use a SATA adapter, but it will not be as fast as it could be
